Cannabial Oxa: New Hope from the Cannabis Plant for Difficult-to-Treat Cancers

What is Cannabielsoxa?

Cannabial oxa is a rare, recently identified molecule from cannabis flowers. South Korean researchers first linked it to cancer research. While cannabial oxa itself did not directly kill tumor cells in the test, it was accompanied by a series of other compounds from the same plant extracts—including CBDa, CBDV, and CBC —that did demonstrate strong anti-tumor effects on neuroblastoma cells .

That's remarkable, because these cannabinoids are usually absent in standardized, heated cannabis products.

Why do we actually decarboxylate?

In most CBD products on the market, cannabinoid acids like CBDa and THCa are converted (degraded) to their "active" form through heating. This process is called decarboxylation.

Peter Vermeul sees a fundamental problem here. Not only because heating destroys valuable substances, but also because the acids in their natural state are biologically very active . In his laboratory and through years of practical experience, he observed that extracts without heating—in which all the acids, terpenes, and flavonoids are preserved—have stronger and broader effects. And now science confirms this.

Full Spectrum = Full Potency

The study results indicate that CBDa, CBDV, and CBC demonstrated significant tumor growth inhibition even at low concentrations —even more potent than some existing chemotherapy agents. They also demonstrated strong binding to a tumor protein involved in neuroblastoma.

Vermeul links this to practical experience with people using his extracts: improved stability, fewer side effects, and in some cases even improved quality of life. He also believes other plant compounds such as cannflavins , beta-sitosterol , and chlorin-like compounds from cannabis show promising potential.

“Discoveries like this remind me why I started this work – not as a manufacturer, but as a researcher.”
Peter Vermeul

What does this mean for the future?

For difficult-to-treat diseases like glioblastoma , pancreatic cancer , or other aggressive tumors, these are encouraging signs. Cannabis doesn't have to be limited to pain management or symptom relief – it could also contribute to supportive therapy with fewer side effects , precisely because it works through multiple mechanisms simultaneously:

  • Inhibition of inflammation

  • Support of apoptosis (programmed cell death)

  • Protection of healthy cells

  • And possibly disrupting tumor growth
