CBDV & CBDVa – The Forgotten Stars of Hair Restoration

Why two unknown cannabinoids could change the future of natural hair restoration

Hair loss. For some, it's a matter of age, for others, genetics. But for almost everyone, it's something you'd rather not have to deal with.
Fortunately, research is being conducted worldwide into new solutions—and sometimes they come from unexpected places. Very unexpected.

Peter Vermeul , founder of CBD Spain and expert in whole plant extracts, discovered that two lesser-known cannabinoids – CBDV (cannabidivarin) and CBDVa (cannabidivaric acid) – could be the forgotten stars of hair restoration.

From laboratory to eureka moment

While producing a CBDa-dominant whole plant extract, Peter discovered that his extract was exceptionally rich in CBDV and CBDVa. These substances are rarely discussed in standard literature. His curiosity was piqued.
Not long after, he came across a scientific article in PubMed Central titled, “Hair Growth with Novel Hemp Extract: A Case Series.”

The crux of that research? A topical hemp extract (applied to the skin) rich in CBDV , CBD , and THCV led to impressive hair growth in people with androgenetic alopecia —hereditary baldness.

The secret is in your hair follicles

Our body has an endocannabinoid system (ECS) – a complex network that regulates inflammation, cell growth, and repair processes. Hair follicles appear to be packed with ECS receptors such as CB1, TRPV1, and TRPV4.

🔹 CBDV , CBD and THCV block the CB1 receptor (linked to hair loss)
🔹 They stimulate TRPV1, which activates the anagen phase (the growth phase of hair)
🔹 CBD also activates the Wnt signaling pathway , essential for the production of new hair follicles

In other words, these cannabinoids help your hair follicles function at full capacity again.

The study – 31 people, 6 months, 100% results

In the clinical trial, 31 participants (15 men, 16 women) used the hemp extract daily on bald or sparsely haired areas. After 180 days:

  • Average of +15 to +16 hairs per cm²

  • For some, even a 2000% increase

  • No side effects whatsoever

  • 100% of participants saw new hair growth

Participants were unanimously positive, with ratings ranging from “happy” to “very happy” about their new hair density.

Why this is different from existing resources

Well-known treatments such as finasteride or minoxidil work in very different ways, often have side effects and are not suitable for everyone.
This hemp extract works through different receptors, does not cause irritation and is complementary to existing therapies.

Formulation is key

Peter emphasizes that simply adding cannabinoids isn't enough—they have to reach the right place: deep within the hair follicles. To achieve this, he uses:

  • Olive oil (rich in antioxidants, penetrates deeply)

  • MCT oil (fast absorption, light texture)

  • Beeswax (protects, stays on the skin longer)

When combined with natural boosters such as beta-caryophyllene , linalool , myrcene and powerful cannflavins, the result is an extract that does more than just influence the ECS.

The message

CBDV and CBDVa deserve a prominent place in the world of hair restoration. Not as an afterthought, but as an essential ingredient in whole plant extracts. Their effectiveness, especially when combined with CBD and THCV, opens new doors for anyone seeking a natural, effective solution to hair loss.
