Full-spectrum CBDa oil for endometriosis and pain
Full-spectrum CBDa oil for endometriosis and pain
Endometriosis is much more than just "severe period pain." It's a chronic, inflammation-driven condition that profoundly impacts women's daily lives. Pain that recurs. Fatigue that doesn't go away. A nervous system that seems to be constantly "on." And on top of that, the mental burden: planning around your cycle, canceling work appointments, missing social activities, experiencing lack of understanding.
At CBD & Herb, we gather scientific publications and practical experience regarding full-spectrum cannabinoid extracts. In this article, we highlight the key insights from the research of Peter Vermeul , founder and owner of CBD Spain , with whom we collaborate as a distributor in Europe.
Below you'll find the core of it – translated into what it can mean for you or your client. For more in-depth information, read Peter Vermeul's full article.
What happens with endometriosis?
Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory disease in which tissue resembling the uterine lining grows outside the uterus. Several processes occur simultaneously:
-
Chronic inflammation
-
Hypersensitivity of nerve fibers
-
Hormonal imbalance
-
Disrupted angiogenesis (formation of new blood vessels)
-
Changes in the endocannabinoid system (ECS)
This is important: with endometriosis, researchers often see a disruption of CB1 receptors in the pelvic region. The body's own pain and inflammation regulation system may therefore function less optimally.
And that is exactly where phytocannabinoids come into the picture.
Why full spectrum – and not just CBD?
Full-spectrum extracts contain not only CBD or THC, but also:
-
CBDa and THCa (the natural acid forms)
-
CBGa
-
Terpenes such as β-caryophyllene and β-myrcene
-
Flavonoids such as cannflavins
-
Plant sterols
These substances work together in what is known as the entourage effect : synergy between multiple plant components.
Isolated substances act in one direction.
A full-spectrum extract influences multiple biological pathways simultaneously.
This is relevant in a complex condition such as endometriosis.
Mechanisms of action: what does the research say?
Several interesting points of attack emerge from preclinical and observational studies.
1. Anti-inflammatory
-
THCa and CBDa demonstrate potent anti-inflammatory effects via PPARγ and cannabinoid receptors.
-
CBD inhibits pro-inflammatory cytokines, COX-2 and MMP enzymes.
-
β-caryophyllene activates the CB2 receptor (immune regulation).
-
Cannflavins are known as strong natural anti-inflammatories.
Endometriosis is by definition an inflammatory condition. Therefore, the simultaneous influence of multiple inflammatory pathways is particularly relevant.
2. Pain modulation via the endocannabinoid system
Chronic pelvic pain is caused not only by tissue growth but also by nerve sensitization. Extra nerve fibers around endometriosis sites keep the nervous system on high alert, so to speak.
Cannabinoids can:
-
Activate CB1 and CB2 receptors
-
Modulating pain signal transmission
-
Reduce stress-related pain
-
Influence serotonergic pathways (CBDa)
Patient reports show that many women become less dependent on NSAIDs or opioids when using cannabis extracts.
But perhaps even more importantly, less pain often also means less fear of the next cycle.
3. Neuroprotection
CBDa and THCa appear to reduce neuroinflammation and may help “calm down” an overactive nervous system.
This can help to break the chronic pain phase that often occurs with long-term endometriosis.
4. Hormonal and tissue-modulating effects
The ECS works in conjunction with sex hormones.
-
THC can inhibit cell growth at higher doses.
-
Cannabinoids can influence angiogenesis (formation of new blood vessels).
-
There are indications that they can modulate estrogen-driven proliferation.
That opens up interesting perspectives for further research.
What do patient data say?
Several surveys and registration studies show:
-
80–96% of users experience pain reduction
-
Improved sleep (up to 91%)
-
Reduction of menstrual pain (±90%)
-
Less use of conventional pain medication
Although observational, the consistency of these findings is striking.
And in practice we see something that cannot be captured in numbers:
Women who dare to make plans again.
Who sleep better.
Those who have less fear of the next cycle.
Dosage forms: why suppositories are so interesting
In research and in practice, vaginal or rectal suppositories with full-spectrum extract are receiving increasing attention.
Advantages:
-
Bypassing first-pass liver metabolism
-
Rapid absorption through well-perfused mucous membranes
-
Local and systemic effect
-
Barely any psychoactive experience
-
Less burden on the gastrointestinal tract
In particular, full-spectrum combinations of THCa/THC/CBDa/CBGa are being investigated in mucosal applications for gynecological complaints.
This is in line with patented formulations in which full-spectrum extracts are applied intravaginally for non-cancer-related gynecological conditions, including endometriosis.
The role of full-spectrum CBDa oil
At CBD & Herb we work with full-spectrum extracts from CBD Spain , developed under the leadership of Peter Vermeul .
His research focuses specifically on:
-
Cannabinoid acids (CBDa, THCa)
-
Synergistic action of plant components
-
Stability and bioavailability
-
Full-fledged plant profiles instead of isolates
In practice, we see that full-spectrum CBDa oil in particular – possibly combined with other forms of administration – can be a valuable support for some women within a broader integrated approach.
Not as a miracle cure.
Yes, as biochemically substantiated support.
Realistic perspective
The science is promising, but not yet complete.
We know:
✔ Multiple biological targets are plausible
✔ Preclinical models show inhibition of inflammation and cell growth
✔ Observations and patient data show consistent pain reduction
We don't know yet:
-
The optimal THC/CBD ratio
-
The ideal dosage
-
Long-term effects in large clinical studies
Caution and guidance remain essential.
Finally
Endometriosis does not only affect the body.
It affects relationships, work, energy, self-confidence.
When inflammation, pain and hormonal disruption come together, it calls for a multi-systems approach.
Full-spectrum CBDa oil offers – scientifically and experientially – a promising additional option.
